Wu Weiren, a male ethnic Han, was born in October 1953 in Pingchang county, Bazhong city, Sichuan province.

Wu is deputy director of the Committee of Deep Space Exploration Technology of the Chinese Society of Astronautics, deputy director of the Uniform Design Professional Committee of the Chinese Mathematical Society, deputy leader of the National Defense Science and Technology Review Group of the State Science and Technology Award, and deputy director of the Review Committee of the National Defense Science and Technology Award. 

Over the past ten years, he has served as a major leader in several technical management positions. He has been honored as a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution, a government lifetime special allowance expert, and a national advanced scientific and technological worker. Currently, he is the chief designer of China's lunar exploration project.
