Bazhong Central Hospital was founded in 1943. It is the only national 3A-grade general hospital in the city that integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and health preservation.

The hospital is listed among the "Top Ten Hospitals of Sichuan Province", "Top 30 3A-grade Hospitals in Sichuan Province", and "Top 500 National General Hospitals". 

The hospital covers an area of 300 mu (200,000 square meters), with 193,800 square meters of business buildings. It has three campuses: Nanchi, Nanba and an Infectious Disease Branch. The hospital has 2,358 beds, 44 first-level clinical departments, 95 second-level professional subjects that include eight provincial-level key specialties and 20 city-level key specialties, and two ICU comprehensive wards.

The Nanba Campus was officially put into operation on April 26, 2018. It covers an area of 179 mu and has 1,044 beds. In the future, it will become a comprehensive training base with 18 clinical specialties.
