The school was known as Bazhong Normal School in 1954, Tongjiang Secondary Vocational Health School from 1958 and Bazhong Technical School from 1990. It was integrated and upgraded to Bazhong Vocational and Technical College in February 2013, becoming the first full-time institution of higher education in Bazhong.
The school covers an area of 500 mu (excluding Tongjiang Campus), and has a total investment of more than 1.4 billion yuan and a planned construction area of 242,600 square meters.
It has built a "Young teachers' innovative teaching team" represented by young doctors and professors, an "Overseas teaching team" represented by overseas high-end talents, and a "Practical teaching team" represented by executives and senior technicians of enterprises and institutions. Its modern library has a collection of more than 500,000 paper books, 8,000 newspapers and periodicals, and more than 160,000 electronic books (1TB).
It has established a diversified development mode for upgrading education. It is cooperating closely with colleges and universities such as Xihua University, Sichuan College of Arts and Science and Neijiang Normal University to build a platform for students who wish to upgrade from junior college to college. The school has reached joint education agreements with well-known European institutions such as Teesside University, the University of Gloucestershire and the University of Chester. After obtaining a college diploma, students can continue their further studies in foreign universities, and their qualifications will be recognized.
The school's teachers and students have won more than 100 awards in provincial and municipal competitions, published 255 papers, edited more than 60 textbooks, undertaken 36 provincial and municipal research projects, and obtained 21 national patents.
The school has been designated a "national defense education characteristic college" by the Ministry of Education and the May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee of Sichuan Province, and as an Advanced Unit of Safe Campuses and an Advanced Unit of Sports Work.
