With the approval of the standing committee of the municipal people's congress, Bazhong, a city in southwest China's Sichuan province, released a 16-character city spirit on November 15, 2021.
Bazhong solicited opinions and suggestions from experts, scholars and netizens in the draft of its spirit, which is finalized as "Faith Through Fortitude · Creativity Against Adversity · Strength from Solidarity · Perseverance for Victory."
Qiu Chengping, deputy mayor of Bazhong, said at a press conference that the spirit comes from a motto used by the Fourth Front Red Army under the leadership of the Community Party of China (CPC).
The Fourth Front Red Army endorsed the motto at a meeting in Maoyu township of Tongjiang, a county of Bazhong, from November 1 to 9, 1934 in a move to further raise the morale of its soldiers, overcome a wide range of odds, carry forward fine traditions and strengthen political and ideological work.
The motto represented the firm conviction of the Red Army for their revolutionary cause, their strong and creative spirit, the firm will contained in tenacious struggle, and adherence to collectivism in a unified manner. It has become deeply rooted in the hearts of the people in Bazhong over the past decades.
